HÖRMANN Intralogistics and its SAP/EWM partner SALT Solutions won the competition with an innovative concept and a convincing overall package. The implementation order included the installation of an automated small parts warehouse (AKL) and an automated pallet warehouse (APL) with extensive conveyor technology from HÖRMANN Klatt Conveyors GmbH, picking stations, tower storage for sequencing as well as the complete automation technology and warehouse management with SAP/EWM.

Excellent conveyor technology and warehouse solutions

At the incoming goods area, small parts delivered in boxes and shipping bags are unloaded manually and placed on the complex container conveyor system designed by HÖRMANN Klatt Conveyors GmbH. This runs across numerous levels and hall areas and includes over 500 accumulating roller conveyors, powerful corner transfer units and ten vertical lifters. This technology guarantees a gentle and smooth transport flow right up to storage in the mini-load warehouse.

Parts and assemblies for machine assembly are delivered on various types of pallets and placed on one of three infeed roller conveyors. A total of 164 pallet conveyors and twelve turntables ensure that the pallets are transported quickly to the APL, where they are stored by five storage and retrieval machines. A sensor-monitored mechanism checks each pallet for damage so that only flawless load units are stored.

Efficient picking and assembly

At nine goods-to-man picking stations, the items are picked from the miniload and APL for assembly based on the order. The picked goods are then transported to the respective assembly stations.

Comprehensive project implementation

The scope of delivery from HÖRMANN Intralogistics included the steel rack construction, platforms, storage and retrieval machines, HiLIS control technology with system visualization and warehouse management with SAP/EWM. The installation of the container and pallet conveyor technology by HÖRMANN Klatt Conveyors GmbH was carried out in parallel with other trades in just ten weeks. Due to the complexity of the project, the pallet conveyor technology was installed in two stages. The container conveyor technology was then integrated into the overall system step by step.

Successful implementation

The warehouse management and material flow control were successfully implemented in 2023 by SALT Solutions GmbH on behalf of HÖRMANN Intralogistics. The interaction of the different conveyor technology components required precise planning and ensured a smooth installation on site.

With this comprehensive restructuring, KraussMaffei Technologies has taken an important step towards optimizing its intralogistics and is now ideally equipped for the future.
