HÖRMANN Industries GmbH has established a new business division. The new "Intralogistics" division unites the companies HÖRMANN Logistik GmbH with its subsidiary HÖRMANN Logistik Polska Sp. z o.o., Klatt Fördertechnik GmbH and HÖRMANN Logistik Systeme GmbH under one roof. The new division also integrates the Services division of the HÖRMANN Group. The aim is to strategically expand the core competencies and achieve synergy effects for ambitious growth. Alongside the Automotive, Communication and Engineering divisions, Intralogistics thus forms the fourth pillar of the HÖRMANN Group.

At LogiMAT 2022, one of the largest international trade fairs for intralogistics solutions and process management, three companies from HÖRMANN Intralogistics will present themselves together for the first time and present their range of services for the automation of intralogistics, from solutions to their own products and software: HÖRMANN Logistik GmbH, Klatt Fördertechnik GmbH and HÖRMANN Logistik Systeme GmbH.

The Intralogistics division will be managed by the new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the HÖRMANN Group, Dr. Christian Baur, from 1 July 2022. He brings with him many years of international experience in the field of intralogistics automation, most recently as CEO of Swisslog, one of the world's leading companies in the field of automated logistics solutions. His core competencies lie in the areas of software, robotics and digitalization. He has not only successfully established growth strategies for software platforms, but also rolled them out globally. "As CTO of the HÖRMANN Group, I look forward not only to contributing my experience in the field of automation, but also to aligning the Intralogistics division internationally together with my colleagues and leading it into the future," says Dr. Christian Baur. He adds: "The markets in both Europe and America, for example, offer above-average growth potential for our solutions, which I would like to tap into together with the existing, highly experienced team."

Strong partners for dynamic and rapid growth

Munich-based HÖRMANN Logistik GmbH and its subsidiary HÖRMANN Logistik Polska Sp. z o.o. are general contractors that build turnkey material flow systems, such as fully automated high-bay warehouses or AutoStore. The company's strength lies above all in the integration of a wide range of trades into an overall system with the project planning of the systems, project management, automation technology and its own warehouse management system (HiLIS). The picking robot solution for AutoStore and other applications developed by HÖRMANN Logistik in collaboration with robominds is based on the "HiLIS AS" WMS specially developed for AutoStore and the intelligent "robobrain" from robominds GmbH. This concept was named Product of the Year 2022 in the "Warehouse and picking technology" category by materialfluss, the trade journal for intralogistics.

With strong partnerships, HÖRMANN Logistik, which has been in business for over 35 years, also offers pioneering complete solutions for a wide range of applications: robominds is the partner for integrating picking robots into order picking processes. Together with Safelog, HÖRMANN Logistik offers a "Moving Racks" system for storing and picking large parts in racks moved by swarm-intelligent "Automated Guided Vehicles" (AGV). And with StrongPoint, full micro-fulfilment center solutions are offered for e-grocery applications and other industries. "We will continue to expand such partnerships and thus further strengthen our network in the Intralogistics division for national and international customers from a wide range of industries," say the Managing Directors of HÖRMANN Logistik Oliver Vujcic and Steffen Dieterich in unison.

Growth drivers for the Intralogistics division

With Klatt Fördertechnik GmbH, based in Neumarkt am Wallersee, Austria, the portfolio is being expanded to include the company's own products and conveyor systems, which are developed, planned, manufactured and assembled by the company. In its more than 20 years of existence, Klatt Fördertechnik has developed into a renowned supplier of conveyor systems for industry, airports, parcel distribution centers, used cardboard boxes and film transport as well as hospitals. Various special solutions are also constantly being developed for the different systems, enabling the company to respond to individual customer requirements.

Klatt Fördertechnik sets high standards, for example, with its timing belt technology for roller conveyors in pallet conveyor technology. These are characterized by low noise levels, low maintenance requirements and high availability. Klatt Fördertechnik has a unique selling point in air baggage transportation with its patent-pending system for the automatic alignment of baggage. It aligns items of baggage - regardless of weight, color and shape - with an almost 100% alignment rate. "Klatt's innovative, dynamic products will be one of the key future growth drivers for the Intralogistics division," emphasizes Dr. Christian Baur.

Center of excellence for light goods

HÖRMANN Logistik Systeme GmbH, based in Graz, Austria, is the competence center for light goods and focuses on sales, planning and implementation of automated storage and conveying systems in this area. The spectrum ranges from automated container and carton conveying systems and picking solutions to fully automated small parts warehouses, such as miniload or shuttle systems. The aim is to supplement the established business of HÖRMANN Logistik GmbH in Munich with further solution modules.

The demand in this market segment is continuously increasing - in particular due to e-commerce, demographic change and the increasing variety of parts and individuality, storage and goods distribution is being broken down into ever smaller batch sizes. The trend is therefore towards even more dynamic systems. With the city of Graz as a training and technology location, there is also the opportunity to build up appropriate capacities to meet customer needs in the long term.

"The Intralogistics division combines many core competencies and integrated solutions. These competencies are now being expanded to include robotics - in line with the motto of the new business division: Robotic-Driven Dynamics," emphasizes Dr. Christian Baur.
