HÖRMANN Warnsysteme, a leading manufacturer of siren warning systems, and SFC Energy AG ("SFC", F3C:DE, ISIN: DE0007568578), a leading supplier of hydrogen and methanol fuel cells for stationary, portable and mobile hybrid power solutions, have launched a joint pilot project. Fuel cells ensure the long-term emergency power supply of siren warning systems as part of a critical infrastructure.
The pilot project was implemented in Kirchseeon, Bavaria, the headquarters of HÖRMANN Warnsysteme, as a demonstration for customers of both companies. On site, a unit of SFC Energy's EFOY ProCabinet 2020S complete turnkey stationary outdoor energy solution is connected directly to a siren mast from HÖRMANN Warnsysteme. The control cabinet contains a permanently installed EFOY Pro 1800 direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC), which takes over the power supply in the event of a power failure and thus ensures the functionality of the siren warning system beyond the time of the existing battery backup. A key differentiating feature of SFC's fuel cell-based energy solution compared to other back-up systems is its independence from the weather (solar radiation or wind conditions), as critical infrastructures in particular require maximum reliability.
Anna Hörmann, Managing Director of HÖRMANN Warnsysteme GmbH: "Our warning systems serve to warn and protect the population. This means that both we and our customers expect maximum availability and operational capability - regardless of whether mains power is available or not. If the mains power fails, back-up systems as an important part of the overall system must still ensure that our sirens can warn the public in good time. With the pilot project and the use of SFC Energy's proven fuel cell technology as a backup power system, we are offering our customers an additional and reliable alternative, e.g. alongside photovoltaic or wind-based backup systems."
Siren warning systems are used worldwide under a wide variety of conditions. Operators are usually state organizations such as municipalities or authorities, but also private companies. HÖRMANN Warnsysteme supplies solutions ranging from individual sirens to nationwide warning systems. Examples of this are the siren network in Bulgaria with 1,000 sirens or 300 installed units in the island state of Singapore. Overall, HÖRMANN has extensive experience from more than 60,000 siren installations and their maintenance. This expertise underlines the great potential for the use of fuel cell solutions from SFC.
Dr. Peter Podesser, CEO of SFC Energy AG: "We appreciate the trust that the market leader for electronic sirens, HÖRMANN Warnsysteme, has placed in us and look forward to further expanding our cooperation in the future. With this pilot project, we are taking initial steps in an international application that has not yet been tapped by SFC and that focuses on ensuring the functionality of critical infrastructures - siren warning systems. Fuel cells from SFC have already proven themselves in many other areas of critical infrastructure, such as information and communication technology, worldwide as a reliable and powerful backup with clean energy - regardless of the local conditions."
