Training program for Taiwan Rolling Stock Corporation (TRSC)

As part of this project, engineers from rail vehicle manufacturer Taiwan Rolling Stock Corporation (TRSC) were taught basic and specialist knowledge on the development of rail vehicles in a total of 31 training events lasting several days. The training courses, consisting of 25 teaching units per event, enabled the development department team at TRSC to develop rail vehicles independently in the future.

The training program was divided into eight modules and covered all key areas of vehicle development, including vehicle architecture, body shell and interior, bogies and running gear, electrics, functional design as well as calculation and simulation tasks. HVE created the training documents in the form of presentations and was responsible for knowledge transfer on site in Taiwan until 2019. From 2021, the training courses were continued as online presentations via video conference due to the coronavirus pandemic.

International collaboration and knowledge transfer

This project, which was contractually agreed in 2018, was developed in collaboration with the Japanese manufacturer Sumitomo and the Taiwanese government as part of an economic development measure. HVE had already worked together with TRSC on a vehicle development project between 2014 and 2017 and realized a five-car low-floor streetcar for New Taipei City

In this project, HVE was responsible for the mechanical and electrical development as well as the design, implementation and testing of a new vehicle control system. The majority of the supplies and systems for the first series of 15 vehicles were brought from Europe to Taiwan, where the streetcars were assembled and commissioned.

Knowledge transfer and long-term cooperation

The project also brought numerous benefits for HVE: The development of the training materials led to comprehensive documentation and systematization of internal knowledge, which is particularly beneficial for new employees. In addition, the intercultural skills and personal relationships between the employees of both companies were strengthened, which forms the basis for future cooperation.

Positive prospects for the future

Despite the completion of the project, the chances of further collaboration with TRSC are very good. For a planned upgrade of the vehicle design of the New Taipei City streetcar, the intention is to continue the previous cooperation. The intercultural skills and personal relationships acquired provide a solid basis for the continuation of this successful international development cooperation.
