What is your role at HÖRMANN Vehicle Engineering?

I am the Managing Director of HÖRMANN Vehicle Engineering in Chemnitz.

 

What characterizes the HÖRMANN company

?

It's not just us at HÖRMANN Vehicle Engineering who are constantly dealing with very different tasks and projects; our colleagues from other companies are also constantly facing new challenges. The HÖRMANN team is characterized by solving tasks independently. We also work on many international projects, currently in India, Australia, Poland and the Czech Republic.

 

What motivates you

?

I am driven by the variety and diversity at work. I also find it particularly exciting to be involved in international concepts. Constantly dealing with new tasks requires a certain willingness to learn and openness. Our colleagues are prepared to take on demanding challenges and tackle them with enthusiasm. Boredom is definitely not an issue for us. That's what sets us apart and what we are committed to. I like the fact that we have a certain amount of creative freedom and can decide for ourselves which tasks we want to tackle.

 

What superpower do you need at HÖRMANN Vehicle Engineering?

Flying might be nice, but not absolutely necessary. We tend to move on two rails or on two wheels. If you want to join us, you have to be prepared to embrace something new. It requires the ability to find solutions for our tasks and then offer them to the customer. These are the qualities that characterize our employees.

 

What does employee retention look like at HÖRMANN Vehicle Engineering?

Employee retention plays an important role for us, because our employees are our most important asset. Our products are the ideas and work of our employees. It is therefore crucial that they are enthusiastic about their work. We have a flat hierarchy and our work is very project-oriented. The employee is at the center of everything we do. As we are constantly recruiting new colleagues, employee retention is particularly important.

 

What does HÖRMANN stand for?

I believe that the HÖRMANN Group is characterized by great diversity. We are a family-run company and we also live this family philosophy. A CEO once said: "We're not a tanker, we're a flotilla of speedboats". And I think that's what sets us apart. The companies are very independent and each individual has a great deal of creative freedom. HÖRMANN stands for creative drive and innovation.

 

What distinguishes HÖRMANN Vehicle Engineering

?

We are not the classic engineering service provider that says: "I'll go to the customer and see what they have to do for me". Instead, we go to the customer with suggestions for innovations and try to implement them together with them. We ask the customer what problems they have and then develop solutions for these problems.

 

What are your hobbies?

I love spending my free time with my grandchildren. It's the greatest joy for me to see them grow up.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Listen to your employees, let the employee talk in the appraisal interview. Try to respond to them, but let them talk first.

Where do you hear and see HÖRMANN in everyday life?

HÖRMANN can be seen in our vehicles. We are very present with our rail vehicles in local public transport or our motorcycles on the road. However, we may not always be immediately recognizable as our logo or name is not always visible on the vehicles. Nevertheless, we are active as a leading company in the development of rail vehicles.

HÖRMANN can also be heard, for example, through our HÖRMANN warning system products, the sirens that were thought to be dead. So we have many interesting projects and different innovation topics.
